AP Physics 1
7.2 Frequency and Period of SHM
On Earth, a simple pendulum of length \(L\) and a block-spring system with mass \(M\) and spring constant \(k\) both oscillate with a frequency \(f\). The two systems are taken to Planet X, where the gravitational acceleration is \(g_X = \dfrac{1}{2}g_E\). On Planet X, the length of the pendulum is increased to \(2L\) and the mass of the block is decreased to \(\dfrac{1}{2}M\). If \(f_p\) is the new frequency of the pendulum and \(f_s\) is the new frequency of the block-spring system, what is the ratio \(f_p / f_s\)?
