AP Physics 2
10.1 Electric Charge and Electric Force
Two identical particles, each having mass \(m\) and positive charge \(q\), are initially separated by a distance \(d\). In this initial configuration, the ratio of the magnitude of the electrostatic force to the magnitude of the gravitational force between the particles is \(R_1\). In a second configuration, the charge of each particle is changed to \(2q\), the mass of each particle is changed to \(4m\), and the separation distance between them is increased to \(2d\), resulting in an electrostatic-to-gravitational force ratio of \(R_2\). What is the ratio \(\dfrac{R_2}{R_1}\)?
