AP Physics 1
4.2 Change in Momentum and Impulse
A tennis ball of mass \(m\) is moving horizontally with speed \(v\) toward a player. The player hits the ball with a racket, and the ball leaves the racket with the same speed \(v\) in the opposite direction. In a second trial, the player uses a different racket that has looser strings. The looser strings increase the contact time between the ball and the racket by a factor of two, but the ball still leaves with the same speed \(v\) in the opposite direction. How does the magnitude of the average force \(F_{loose}\) exerted by the looser strings compare to the magnitude of the average force \(F_{standard}\) exerted by the standard strings?
